Abstract: In both Lakota and English
Nationally and state-wide, 4th graders tend to tend to test lower than they did first through third grade. Pine Ridge School piloted the READ 180 program, an intervention program for low level struggling readers. The researcher proposes to show that the READ 180 program made a significant difference in the gains of the 4th grade reading scores for the 2005-2006 school year, using the reading scores from the 2005-2006 state test, 2004-2005 state test, and SRI scores. The 4th grade students in the 2005-2006 school year made significant gains. The students who did make gains maintained a proficient level. The READ 180 program worked at sustaining students at the proficient level versus falling into the fourth grade slump.
