Abstract: Both in Lakota and English This study analyzes the relationship between student learning styles and instructor teaching styles. Consistently low standardized test scores in the local school district was cause for concern for the researcher. Review of literature on learning and teaching styles showed that alignment of teaching styles with students' learning styles causes an increase in student academic achievement which in turn results in higher test scores. This analysis was conducted to determine if the 7th grade teaching styles aligned with the 7th grade learning styles. The Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire, written by Felder and Solomon (n,d), was used for the 7th grade students to find individual learning styles. This instrument was chosen for its easy readability, variety of topics and lack of user fee when used for educational purposes. The Teaching Style Survey, created by Grasha & Riechmann (n.d), was used for the 7th grade teachers to determine their individual teaching styles. Data collected from both of these instruments was used to analyze how closely the teaching styles aligned with the learning styles of the students.
